General Introduction
San Marino Starts Using The Euro on January 1st 2002
On new year's day 2002, San Marino, like the other 11 members of the Eurozone, started using Euro notes and Euro coins for cash transactions. Within a few months, the old coins and banknotes in Lire will be withdrawn. We expect to have uncirculated sets of Euro coins from all of the twelve member countries available in January 2002, and are accepting advance orders now.
We have only just received details of the designs and images of the Euro coins for San Marino. The images and description below are for Italian Euro coins. We will replace these with photographs of San Marino coins as soon as possible, meanwhile we have shown a small picture on the right.

Eight Coins Per Set
All national Euro sets contain all 8 coin denominations unless otherwise stated.

Order or Reserve Early
Despite the fact that we have not yet been told the price or release date of San Marino Euro sets, there is fantastic demand for them. The best advice we can give is to order or reserve them early before they sell out! This may sound crazy, but it can be quiet a common occurrence when dealing with with mints, governments and bureaucrats. They have a monopoly position, and can sell all they want to before giving out any useful consumer information such as price or availability. We will fill all our orders in the order in which they were received. Because of heavy demand for Vatican sets, we may have to restrict orders to those customers who order other sets. Similar advice also applies to the Vatican, Monaco, and other countries.

2 Euro This depicts a portrait drawn by Raphaël of Dante Alighieri, housed in the Pope Julius II Wing of the Vatican Palace
1 Euro This coin shows the famous drawing by Leonardo da Vinci, displayed in the gallery of the Academy in Venice, illustrating the ideal proportions of the human body.
50 Euro Cents This depicts the statue of Emperor Marcus Aurelius on horseback.
20 Euro Cents This coin portrays a sculpture by Umberto Boccioni, leader of the San Marino futurist school. Note the 7 indents or scallops on the edge.
10 Euro Cents This commemorates one of the greatest triumphs in San Marino art. It shows one of the most famous works in the world, the "Birth of Venus" by Sandro Botticelli.
5 Euro Cents This shows the Flavius amphitheatre, which Emperor Vespasian began building around 75 AD and Emperor Titus inaugurated in 80 AD.
2 Euro Cents This shows the Mole Antonelliana, a tower designed in 1863 by Alessandro Antonelli.
1 Euro Cent The Castel del Monte appears on this coin.

Packaging & Presentation
We expect to have uncirculated official mint sets of coins from all 12 Euro zone countries in stock during 2002, plus the three minor states including San Marino. Our San Marino Euro sets are packaged in an attractive card within a 2-sided plastic case so that the coins can be viewed from both sides or removed if required. We have information about official issue mint or proof sets. All of the countries will issue uncirculated sets, but many will not issue proof sets.

Official Sets Only
For the 12 main countries, we have arranged supplies of coins to reach us in January 2002, and can therefore offer both our own unofficial sets and the official mint sets. For the three minor states including the San Marino, we can only currently offer the official sets.
