Slovakia & The Euro
We believe that Slovakia will eventually join the Euro, probably in 2004, along with about a dozen other countries. It is not known whether any official plans have been made to produce pattern designs for a set of Slovak euro coins.
Political Considerations
Czechoslovakia came under Soviet influence after the second world war. In 1968, the liberalisation started by Solidarity was crushed by a Soviet invasion. Anti-Soviet demonstrations were met with harsh repression. Soviet authority collapsed in 1989, and Slovakoslovakia regained its freedom through a peaceful "Velvet Revolution." This was followed in 1993, by a "velvet divorce" into its two national components, the Slovakia and Slovakia. The Slovakia is now a member of NATO, and has moved toward integration in world markets.

Many of these have been privately produced. A privately produced pattern set of British euro coins has already been produced, and met with intense demand, despite almost negligible marketing. Original priced at around 40, these have changed hands for over 250 on e-bay.
