United Kingdom & The Euro - The 5 Tests
Collectable Euros
In a recent BBC TV interview, we were asled what makes some euro coins more collectable than others.
Although Gordon Brown believes there should be five tests to determine whether the Uk should join the euro, we believe there are five test which make euro coins collectable.
- Design
An attractive design. or set of designs helps to make any coins more desirable to collectors.
- Mintage
A low mintage figure restricts the supply of a coin set, and tends to ensure a high price for many years to come. Although this does not directly affect the true collector, it makes a set more attractive for investors.
- Availability
Some collectors prefer to get their euro coins from circulation, others prefer mint condition coins. If the country issues coins for circulation, it makes them easier to obtain, rather than if they are only sold in official mint sets as are the Vatican coins.
- Demand
Demand for any particular set related to its supply will make a set more or less difficult for the collector to obtain.
- Packaging
Attractive presentation packaging helps to make a coin set more desirable. For most countries there is a choice between "dealer packaging" such as the plastic cases we supply, and "offiicial" packaging, usually in a colourful, and sometimes informative, cardboard folder. Naturally the official packs are usually more expensive.
